Nathan Tomlinson has worked on Hollywood blockbusters and earlier this year, was nominated for an Emmy for his aerial cinematography on Life on the Reef – a documentary about the Great Barrier Reef.

But on Friday, the 36 year old was arrested by Redfern-based officers and detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad after a search warrant was executed at his home at Mascot, which he shares with his girlfriend.

Seized from the property was a H2 Hummer vehicle, computers, mobile phones and clothes. Tomlinson was later charged with eight offences including aggravated sexual intercourse with a child aged between 10 and 14 and three counts of possession of child abuse material.

Police will allege Tomlinson met the victim several years ago and assaulted her at a motel room in Sydney’s south-west. It is understood he was under investigation for other offences when police came across alleged child pornography images on a computer that led the Child Abuse Squad to launch its own investigation. Among the items seized at his home were 46 video files allegedly showing children under the age of 12 having sex. There were also alleged to be images of his alleged victim, for which he has been charged with producing child abuse material.

Tomlinson runs a Sydney-based company called Film Helicopters and his resume is crammed with countless credits on movies such as Wolverine and Narnia 3 – Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  He worked on the Steven Spielberg drama TerraNova, James Cameron’s Deep Sea Challenge documentary and the recent BBC television series Coast Australia. He is also regularly commissioned by the major Australian television networks to shoot aerial segments – his camera work having featured on a range of popular programs past and present including Underbelly, Home and Away, Masterchef and All Saints.

His website also list credits on a range of global television commercials for companies such as Honda, Nissan and Toyota.

Investigations by the Child Abuse Squad are continuing. Tomlinson did not apply for bail at Parramatta Bail Court yesterday and will appear, via video link, at Central Local Court on October 18.
