Les Darcy cafe to open in Currency Lass

Next month one of the final pieces of the puzzle will fall into place,a pay-it-forward cafestyled after a Maitland legend.

Founder Liz Berger said patrons of the cafecandonate extra money which will be used to providea coffee or meal tofamilies and individualsstruggling to make ends meet.

The cafe will integrate with other homelessness support services in the region through a voucher scheme. Support services will be able to give out mealvouchers, which can be redeemed at the cafewithout stigma or judgement.

The cafe will be styled in honour of Maitland boxing legend Les Darcy, who held many of his fights in the pub’s back yard.

“[Darcy] started from poor beginnings,” she said.“He teaches perseverance, we need to encourage that.”“We hope people will draw inspiration from his life.”

The cafe will open at 205 High Street in November.
