The club will welcome between 450 and500 students to the field.

Students will travel from as far as Geelong, Mildura andWarrnambool for the largest school shoot of its kind in Australia.

The students will shoot two rounds of 12 targets with a single barrel.

Committee member Bruce Crafter said the emphasis was on firearm safety and giving students a basic knowledge of firearms.

“As the students arrive at the shoot ground they must hand their firearms into the armory for the duration of the day unless they are on the course shooting,” he said.

“With 400 odd guns, it is a pretty impressive sight.”

Students willcompeteacross four sections, junior boys under-15, junior girls under-15, senior boys and senior girls.

Crafter said the event was also an opportunity to learn a new skilland have fun.

“I think schools really embrace it,” he said.

“There are some kids that have never fired a gun before.

“There has only been about 10 kids over the 17 years that have not shot a target by the end of the day.If they don’t we take them out at the end to helpthem. They seem to really enjoy it.”
