Wattle Grove sets national breed record with $30,000 bull

Butthe femalesheld their ownwhenone lot consisting of eightcommercial F1 preg tested in calf (PTIC) heifers offered by guest vendors Justin and Amy Dickens, JAD Agriculture, Yeoval,sold to Richard and Helen Thompson, Palmers Island, for $5800 per head, setting a new national record paid for a commercial heifer in any breed.

In the breakdown 28 of the 29 stud bulls offered sold to a top of $30,000 and averaged $10,822, 14 un-joined stud heifers sold to a top of $12,000 averaging $5707, one embryo lot sold for $14,000, three semen packages offered sold to a high of $200averaging $156.67 and 39 commercial heifers, offered by guest vendor JAD Agriculture, recorded a top-price of$5800 while averaging $4892.

The 13 month-old top-price bull, Project A, was sired by Codiak PutnamGNK 61Y and out of CodiakAmanda GNK 11U. Project Aweighed 585 kilograms andhad an eye muscle area (EMA) of 104 centimetres squared with rib and rump fat of eight and 10 millimetres.

The second highest price paid was $22,000 for Codiak Magic, a 920kg 26 month-old bull knocked down to Dennis and Louise Saint, Oakey Creek Speckle Parks, Manilla.

Buyers came from across NSW as well as Western Australia,Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania.

Wattle Park stud principal, Dale Humphries, said the result was “awesome for the breed”.

“We proved today we are a breed to be reckoned with” Mr Humphries said.

The sale was conducted by Elders with Brian Kennedy, Elders stud stock, Armidale taking the bids.
